It was a stupid party. Cody hated the dumb asses who threw it. But, being the popular boy around the neighborhood— he had to go. The boy was on his way home;  simply walking down the road before her heard the grown men spewing violent, filthy words at someone against a car. Cody sighed quietly, his hands in his pocket as he walked right over to the car.

”What do you assholes think you’re doing?” His voice was metal; sharp, cool and hard. “You’re not doing anything, y’hear?” And when one of the men threw his fist— Cody quickly ducked out of the way, gripping the stranger’s wrist and snapping it in one single, quick moment. At last, his eyes rest upon the girl who they had been harassing. A soft, quick sigh escaped him as he reached forward; his hand grabbing her wrist and pulled her to him.

“You fuckers need to figure out who you’re messing with around here.”

She recognised him as her neighbour. Of course she did, how could she not? The two had basically grown up together, and she had never seen so much hatred from her grandfather as she did when he was around the neighbours. Endless fights and words of hate. She wasn’t supposed to like this boy; there was no disobeying her grandfather.

She tucks her head against his side, not wanting to see the boys who would have hurt her. The feeling of being vulnerable stayed with her; it made her sick.
